Language Development for Infants and Toddlers

Language Development for Infants and Toddlers

About this Course

In this course, you’ll learn strategies you can use each day to help infants and toddlers develop the critical language and communication skills they need to be successful, without neglecting other areas of important skill development. These strategies can be embedded in your schedule throughout the day in a way that doesn’t take your time away from other obligations to the children you serve.

Learning Outcomes

  • Implement communication loops with the infants and toddlers in your care
  • Select appropriate toys, books, and other materials to facilitate exploration of the environment and enhance language development
  • Facilitate early language and speech skills with infants and toddlers through mediation
  • Facilitate toddlers’ language development through conversations and questions throughout the day
  • Provide quality feedback to toddlers by expanding and extending what they say
  • Encourage peer conversations between the toddlers in your care

These strategies are job-embedded and will need to be implemented with the infants and toddlers in your setting.
